In the second half of the 19th century the germ theory of disease of Louis Pasteur (1822-1895) prevailed. A large number of devices created to eliminate microorganisms were developed. The French researcher himself developed and manufactured the first autoclaves. Several autoclaves from hospitals and industries are at the center of the room.

Several German stoves to eliminate germs by boiling water, double boilers, muffles, furnaces for incineration of materials, etc., complete the room. A section oriented to enology includes stills, coils, ebulliometers, and ebullioscopes.

The room is dedicated to the former rector of the University of the Basque Country, Gregorio Monreal (1942- ), who assigned us this part of the Central Library for the Museum.
