First participation of the SGIker in the international event on the scientific diffusion "Pint of Science"

First publication date: 26/05/2017

On Tuesday, May 16th, our chromatography technician from the Central Service of Analysis of Bizkaia (SCAB) Dr. Luis Bartolomé participated as guest speaker in one of the scientific talks organized from the international event Pint of Science (https: // Pintofscience.es/). This Pint of Science festival aims to offer interesting, fun, important talks about the latest scientific research, in a format which is accessible to the public. And all in a bar !. From this event, we want to offer a platform that allows people to discuss the research with the people who carry it out. It is a non-profit organization run by volunteers and was created by a community of postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers in 2012. In that year Michael Motskin and Praveen Paul, two researchers from Imperial College London, carried out and organized an event called 'Meet the Researchers', which brought together people affected by Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, motor neuron disease and multiple sclerosis in their laboratories, to show them the type of research they carry out. At this time, the festival is held annually for three days simultaneously in bars around the world.

Our technician explained the different methodologies that exist today for the dating of relatively modern documents highlighting, among them all, the methodology DATINK (100% developed in Euskadi). The attendees were able to know the chemical processes that are the basis of this DATINK methodology, advantages over other techniques and drawbacks that have been overcome. Finally some real cases were shown in which this technique has been used with good results responding colloquially and close to the questions that were launched from the attendees to the event.
